Layer toolbar

1       Introduction

Layer toolbar

This topic will cover the layer toolbar and its features.

We estimate that this will take 1 minutes to complete.

2       Detailed Explanation

Layer Toolbar

Let's have a look at the layer toolbar. The layer toolbar is on the left hand side of the application in portrait and also in landscape mode. The toolbar allows you to control map details by turning on and off layers. This can be useful to help prevent clutter on the map and increase performance.

You can remove the toolbar in the application settings. In this example we will assume the toolbar is off. Let's go and turn on the layer toolbar and look at it in more detail.

You can see above the layer toolbar here with all the different layers.

You can see below that the layer toolbar is not present. More than likely it will be because it is turned off in the settings menu.

Interaction 1 Click the Menu button.

Interaction 2 Click the Settings menu item.

You can clearly see here that the toggle map layers is turned off. Move the slider to the right to turn it on.

The layer toolbar is now visible. Currently, visible on the chart are three layers, AD (aerodrome) COM Area (communication area) and FIR (flight information region) these are shown by Cyan text with a gray background, this indicates that the layer is on.

Zooming in or out will control what buttons are available in the layer toolbar. Currently seven of the layers are not available at this zoom level.  Let's zoom in to see what becomes available.

Interaction 3Interaction 2Interaction 1

You can see that all the layers are available at this zoom level. You can de-clutter the map by turning off the layer, this will remove the features off the map.

Interaction 1 Click the AD button.

Interaction 2 Click the AWY HI button.

Interaction 3 Click the WPT button.

You have just turned off three layers that you wish not to be visible on the map. Let's zoom further out.

Interaction 2Interaction 1

Interaction 1 Click the Scale button.

Interaction 2 Click the WIDE 150NM list item.

Zooming in or out will leave the layers turned off or on.

The layers button has three different states:

Cyan text with a gray background indicates that the layer is on.

White text with a black background indicates that the layer is turned OFF but can be re-enabled if you tap the tile again. The button will assume this state when the map zoom is within the zoom level for a map element to be displayed on the map, but you have to tap the button to turn the layer off manually.

Gray text with a black background indicates that the button is inactive, and the layer cannot be turned back ON. The button will assume this state automatically when map zoom is outside the zoom level for a map element to be displayed on the map.
